Yesterday we pushed off from the shoreline. Like Peter, we said, "Nevertheless at Your word."
But here's the thing about deep water. You don't get there once and stay there automatically. The current always pulls toward the shore.
Surrender is a moment. Depth is a lifestyle.
So today we get practical.
God spoke through Jeremiah to a people in exile. "And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."
God isn't playing hide and seek. He wants to be found. But He won't be found by half a heart.
He's not looking for your leftovers. He wants to be wanted.
Now let me be clear. Depth doesn't come from a technique. It comes from a relationship. But every healthy relationship has rhythms.
Couples who stay close don't just hope it happens. They make time. They talk. They listen. They show up.
Here are six rhythms that will take you deeper.
First, unhurried Scripture.
Most of us read the Bible like we're checking a box. One verse, one quick thought, and we're out the door.
Try reading less, but slower. Pick one passage. Read it twice. Ask, "What does this show me about God? What is He saying to me?"
The goal isn't to get through the Bible. It's to let the Bible get through you.
Second, honest prayer.
Read the Psalms and you'll find David crying, questioning, complaining, and praising, sometimes in the same chapter.
God doesn't want your church voice. He wants your real one. Tell Him what you actually feel. He already knows anyway.
Third, silence and listening.
Most of our prayers are a monologue. We talk, say amen, and leave.
But Psalm 46 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." Notice the order. Stillness, then knowing.
Mark tells us Jesus got up "a long while before daylight" and went to a solitary place to pray. If the Son of God needed quiet, so do we.
Start with five minutes. No phone. No noise. Just, "Speak, Lord. I'm listening."
Fourth, worship.
Not just on Sunday. In the car. In the kitchen. Over the dishes.
Worship shifts your focus from the size of your problem to the size of your God. It's one of the fastest ways from the shore to the deep.
Fifth, obedience.
This is the one we skip. Jesus said, "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me." Then He promised, "I will love him and manifest Myself to him."
Did you catch that? Jesus reveals Himself to the one who obeys.
Depth isn't just what you learn in the quiet. It's what you do with it afterward.
Every act of obedience takes you a little further from the shore.
Sixth, community.
You were never meant to swim alone. Find two or three people who want more of God too. Pray together. Be honest. Ask each other the hard questions.
Lone swimmers drift. Connected believers go deeper.
Now hear me. You don't have to do all six perfectly starting tomorrow. That's how people quit by Thursday.
Pick a time and a place. Start small and stay faithful. Depth is built on consistency, not intensity.
And remember Day 3. These rhythms are not how you earn access. The veil is already torn. In Christ, you're not a visitor trying to get in. You're a child who already belongs.
These rhythms don't get God's attention. They give Him yours.
Paul wrote, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit."
The Spirit who lives in you wants to show you more of God than you've ever seen.
Your part is to keep showing up.
Today's Challenge
Choose a daily time and place for the next seven days and put it on your calendar. Today, spend 20 minutes there: 5 minutes reading Psalm 63 slowly, 5 minutes of honest prayer, 5 minutes of silence just listening, and 5 minutes of worship. Then text one friend and ask them to join you in this rhythm for the week.
Prayer
Father, I don't want depth to be a one-time moment. I want it to be my life. Teach me to seek You with all my heart. Slow me down in Your Word. Make my prayers honest. Quiet me enough to hear You, and give me the courage to obey what You say. Thank You that You want to be found. In Jesus' name, amen.
Reflection
- Which of these six rhythms is strongest in my life, and which one is missing?
- Am I seeking God with all my heart, or giving Him what's left?
- What specific time and place will I set apart to meet with Him?
